I love a good porch. Really. It’s one of the biggest reasons I moved to Daybreak – every single home has a front porch. What I didn’t realize when I decided to move is that Halloween porch decor is a BIG DEAL around here. HUGE!
You might have even seen photos of the neighborhood at some point. I know Dead and Breakfast Inn photos are always floating around online…The home has traditionally received more than 5000 visitors a year!
I have a lot of space to work with so I was a little nervous about living up to “the Jones,” but when Sherwin-Williams offered to partner with me I knew I’d be in good shape.
Let’s start with the before…
The porch is great, but my home is one of the few in the neighborhood without a fun, bright colored front door. I knew that selecting a new color for the door would be the highlight of this project, IF I picked out the right color.
I could have gone straight into the paint store, but I played around at home on the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap app for a bit first. It’s a great tool for selecting colors and I love that you can scan in a photo or even select one from Pinterest and color match!
It’s fall and I love orange, so I knew I wanted something along those lines. I settled in on Koral Kicks (SW 6610).
I used Sherwin-Williams SnapDry paint for my door. I was a bit anxious to try a new product, but the quick-dry formula seemed perfect for the project. The paint lived up to expectations. In fact in our dry Utah weather, I think the paint dried in LESS than an hour.
Once the door was painted, it was just a matter of adding decorative touches.
Halloween Porch Decor
I am so happy with the paint color and how well it looks from the street. The contrast brightens up the entire entrance to my home. I love it!
With the holidays right around the corner, I really wanted to complete this project on a tight budget. I purchased the pumpkins from a local grower. I love the different colors and the variety in shape.
The flowers were picked up on sale at Home Depot and Walmart. The most expensive plant was $15.
The great thing about all of the “live” decor is that it will all work through Thanksgiving!
I’ve always loved decorating with skeletons, so I added a few to the porch. The key to keeping them all in place? Heavy duty zip ties.
This skeleton wreath is one of my favorite Halloween projects. I first shared it on the blog over six years ago and it still makes an appearance every Halloween.
The ravens were a dollar store purchase several years ago. They’ve held up well and look every bit as good as the ones found in the craft store and/or online.
I am super-happy with how well the door looks with my fall decor.
It’s been such a hit, my Halloween porch decor was even featured on our local Fox station. You can visit their site if you’d like to see the full video 🙂
