Spooky Skeleton Wreath

Craft your way into being the creepiest house on the block with this spooky skeleton Halloween wreath…

There has been a lot of discussion around the house about whether Halloween should be fun (me) or creepy, scary, spooky. Creepy, scary and spooky is winning.

Since last year’s Halloween wreath was made of feathers and glitter, it was pretty apparent a new, spookier wreath was in order.

I really wanted to make something with skulls and have been trolling the dollar store for something suitable from the moment Halloween stuff started showing up on the shelves…

I actually ended up finding these little fellas at Michaels for $1.50. I bought 8 of them. Martha has a set of similarly-sized Styrofoam skulls that you could use a coupon to purchase.

The skulls that I purchased were actually little ornaments. They had a black ribbon loop that needed to be detached. I just gave each a gentle tug and they popped right out. *Be careful. If you pull too hard you can damage the skull.

I could have simply glued the skulls to the wreath at this point, but I realized the wreath would be more sturdy if the back of the skull was lying flat on the surface. I used a regular kitchen knife to cut through the Styrofoam.

Okay. You’re now done with the hard part. (Have I mentioned that I am a fan of easy crafts that can’t be messed up and take less than half hour?)

I considered covering a Styrofoam wreath with grey fabric for the base, but in the end decided to go with a little spookier looking grapevine wreath I already had on hand (I think I purchased it at Micahels as well – with a coupon it was only about $2).

I was glad I had split the skulls. I ended up using a couple of the backs (four to be exact) to fill in. I also folded up some left over pieces of black glittery mesh ribbon to fill in the spaces.

It still needed a little something and I remember having seen an awesomely creepy snake wreath over on Pinterest. I put a little black glitter on some creepy crawlies from the dollar store and voila. Wreath complete!

I am pleased to report that the wreath was deemed appropriately creepy.
