Salt and Pepper Shaker Snow Globes

My parents are moving next summer and the change is about to unearth one of my dirtiest little secrets…I love snow globes. I have a particular affinity for Disney snow globes and may have, oh somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 at my parents house.

I know. They are horribly cheesy, but there’s something about them that just makes me smile.

All of the Anthropologie-inspired bottle brush tree snow globes that’ve made a comeback in the last year or so have made me happy as a clam (where the heck do phrases like that come from?) and I decided this year to try my hand at something similar.

Meet our super-simple DIY salt and pepper shaker snow globes.

To say that these were easy is a TOTAL understatement, but they proved to provide entertainment for the entire night. Even better? All of these items can be found at your local dollar store.

SUPPLIES

  • salt and pepper shakers (purchased the round ones at Walmart for about $3, but these s&p shakers on Amazon
would work so well for a party and they are sooo cheap!)
  • glitter (I realize there are other options, but I ONLY use Martha Stewart glitter. We tried this coarse glitter
and this magical metallic tinsel glitter.)
  • miniature decorative items (we used bottle brush trees and some mini holiday ornaments from an old advent calendar)
  • plastic (to seal the shaker holes)
  • glue (you can’t go wrong with E-6000 )

I sealed up the caps on our salt and pepper shakers with a little sheet plastic and some glue prior to starting. After that, we glued in the focal piece and tested it out just to make sure it could be seen properly.

Then I let the kids go wild, filling their snow globe with whatever they wanted…

Some of them are filled with water, while others are dry. We haven’t had any leaking yet, but you’ve got to use a great deal if you’re going to add wet.

What do you think? Cute, right?!

Here are a few of my favorite snow globe projects if you’re looking for a great alternative…
