This fun DIY Treat Yo’ Self banner serves as the perfect backdrop for a Galentine’s Day photo booth, but would also be fantastic as a background banner for treat bars hosted at any occasion.
In the age of iPhones and selfie sticks, a photo booth is a great party activity and they also serve as a fun way to document the event. However, hiring a professional photographer to assemble and operate a photo booth can quickly become expensive. Skip the costly rental and create a one-of-a-kind booth while staying on budget with decorations like this easy to make Treat Yo’ Self banner.
Here are a few tips for ensuring that your DIY photo booth works out perfectly.
5 Tips for a Great Photo Booth
Find a Good Location. Look for a spot with great natural light. If you’re hosting an event at night, consider additional lighting to brighten up the photo booth area.
Select a single color background with simple decorations and accessories. A solid color background and simple props allow the camera to focus on party attendees, while pattern can have the opposite effect. If you’re going to create a background rather than using an existing wall, make it 6×4 – it’s the perfect size for photos taken on a phone.
Have a volunteer “man” the photo booth and/or keep an extra selfie stick handy. While many of your party guests will assist each other with photos, it’s great to have a volunteer stationed by the photo booth and/or an extra selfie stick handy for larger group photos.
Props aren’t necessary, but they sure do make things fun. Providing props such as banners, printables, hats, sunglasses and other items that match your event theme step up the level of excitement for your attendees.
Tell your guests what to do with the images they take! Make a hashtag for your party so that you can find and collect ALL of the photos people took while at your party.
DIY Treat Yo’ Self Banner
My friend Jen and I recently hosted a fun Galentine’s Brunch. We knew there would be a bit of downtime for our guests as people arrived and we finalized the meal, so we set up a photo booth.
The photo booth was set up in the living room, where there are several windows and lots of natural light, and a large white wall. To create a festive setting, we brought in some balloons, honeycomb tissue balls and a couple banners.
Since Galentine’s Day is a Parks and Rec invention, we thought that bringing in the “Treat Yo’ Self” phrase from another fun episode would be fitting and incorporated it into our photo background.
Supplies:
Treat Yo’ Self Banner File JPG or SVG
Cricut (Electronic Cutting Machine)
Gold Cardstock (I used Jennifer Hadfield’s gold chevron paper from her Cottage Living line.)
Gold Twine
Selfie Stick
I created the banner on my computer and then cut the file out using my Cricut. Once the file was cut, it was as simple as stringing the Treat Yo’ Self phrase on some twine and adhering it to the wall.
This fun DIY Treat Yo’ Self banner was perfect as a photo booth backdrop at our Galentine’s event and I can’t wait to pull it out and use it over the treats at my next party!
