This crumble apple pie is my all-time favorite fall dessert.
Let’s talk pie.
It’s delicious.
‘Nough said.
This crumble apple pie? It’s the stuff dreams are made of…Your family will ask for it again and again.
For years the thought of baking a pie nearly sent me over the edge, because…PIE CRUST. With this apple crumble pie recipe, you get to skip the delicate prep and all of the rolling. Needless to say it’s very, very simple to make.

So let’s talk about the crust shall we? We’re talking about
- 1.5 c. flour
- 1.5 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- .5 c. oil
- 2 tbsp. milk
Mixed together it looks something like this…
Instead of rolling this crust out, you simply press it into the pie dish. It doesn’t need to be perfect. As long as it is evenly pressed, it will turn out great!
The filling for this apple crumble pie is truly nothing special. It’s just apples, flour, sugar and spices, but when combined they create something extraordinary.
- 4 c. peeled and diced or sliced apples (cut to your preference)
- .5 c. sugar
- 2 tbsp. flour
- .5 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
To create a more interesting flavor, I suggest using an assortment of apples in your pie. I am partial to pairing sweet Honeycrisp with the more tart Granny Smith apple.
Cutting your apples into thin slices and layering them makes for a really beautiful pie, but it’s a bit faster to simply dice them into small chunks so that’s what I usually do.
Place your filling on top of the crust in your pie dish.
The topping is just as simple as the rest and the best part is that you can simply just dump it on top of the filling.
- .5 c. flour
- .5 c. cold butter
- .5 c. sugar
Once it’s all beaten together, it’s time to bake the pie at 350 for an hour and a half.
I know this is going to sound a bit strange, but trust me when I tell you that baking your pie in a paper sack makes all the difference in the world!
The paper bag keeps the pie from getting to brown and overcooked.
This crumble apple pie tastes great with with a bit of vanilla ice cream…I might have gotten a bit carried away with this scoop!
Believe me when I tell you that EVERYONE loves this pie!
