The matchbox valentines is a horrible idea. I would be very upset if my child came home with something that mimicked matches and he’s almost 10! Would you really give young children a pretend matchbox when you should be keeping real matches away from them?

It sounds like we have kids about the same age and while I would never let my boys play with real matches, I wouldn’t have a problem with them receiving the edible matchstick Valentine treats. We’ve taught our kids to have a healthy respect for potentially dangerous things like matches – a tool, not a toy. Honestly they’re exposed to far worse at school than something like this…
