There was one film I was dying to see in the theaters this year that I didn’t get to see – Snow White and the Huntsman. It looked like the perfect blend of fierce chick and fantasy. The movie is now available for purchase on Blue-Ray/DVD and I couldn’t resist a little viewing party…
To mark the celebration, I made a fun red candy apple recipe.
Ingredients
8 apples
8 craft sticks
2 c. sugar
1 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. hot water
1/2 c. Red Hots
Directions
1. Prepare a baking sheet to hold your apples. You will want to line it with aluminum foil, sprayed with cooking oil so the candied apples don’t stick. A little note? Don’t try wax paper. It never works.
2. Wash and dry your apples. Remove the stems and stick craft sticks (or whatever you’ve decided to use as a skewer) firmly into the apple.
3. Combine water, corn syrup and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
4. Stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves and the liquid in the pan is clear.
5. Continue to cook without stirring, unti l the mixture reaches 250 degrees.
6. Once your mixture reaches 250 degrees add the red hots and stir until they are blended well. Continue to cook until the candy reaches 285 degrees.
7. Remove from the heat and stir the candy until it’s smooth, even and there are relatively no air bubbles.
8. Hold your apple by the skewer and dip it into the candy. I found that tilting the pan and rotating the apple to cover it works best. A light coat will work best. My candy was a little bit heavy…
The apples will keep, so this is a great treat to make in advance.
Snow White and the Huntsman Movie Review
I have to admit that I was a little nervous about this movie for a few reasons, but let’s talk about the main hurdle…Kristen Stewart fairer than Charlize Theron? I don’t know about that.
The film has some pretty fantastical cinematography, brilliant costumes, delightfully dark art direction and a great performance by Charlize Theron as the evil queen Ravenna. Additionally it features the traditional dwarves, poison apple and true loves kiss.
The movie is now available for everyone to enjoy a little at home viewing. The combo pack on sale includes an extended version of the film not shown in theaters (which is what I watched), as well as a Digital Copy of the film, compatible with iPhone®, iTunes®, iPad®, iPod®, iPod® touch, Android or online retail partners – Woot!
I recommend your grab a copy!

Sleeping Beauty is my absolute FAVORITE fairy tale. Always, always, always!
Beauty and the Beast
Any fairy tale where they get rescued by their prince is a great one in my book! 🙂
The red apple and imagery in Snow White are an artistic landscape. Can’t wait for the movie xo Birdie
My favorite fairytale is Sleeping Beauty!!!
Growing up, Sleeping Beauty was my absolute favorite. Today, I just adore Tangled!
I loved Cinderella and Snow White when I was a kid. These apples look so awesome, thanks for sharing!!
Mulan
When I was a little girl I just loved Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Right now my favorites are Tangled and Enchanted.
I’ve always loved Cinderella! Can’t believe it’s already candied apple season! Whoot!
I want to see this too! I can;t believe I won the vacuum so I’m trying my hands at another win :o)
Growing up it was sleeping beauty, but I like beauty & the beast since she’s smart, and I love watching once upon a time on tv!
What a fun idea. One of these days I want to do a fun movie watch party with fun themed food.
It has too be Cinderella.
I always think of the Disney movies when I think of Fairytales. I would say the Snow White has always been my favorite through different avenues than Disney. Pocahontas is another one of my favorites. Those apples look delicious! Maybe drizzle chocolate over top and the would taste like chocolate covered cinnamon bears (a family favorite). 😉
You totally make me want to see this movie while eating candied (hopefully not poisoned) apples! Favorite fairytale? That’s tough. Of the Disney variety, I think I always liked Beauty and the Beast because of Belle’s character. She was easy to identify with.
I really love Cinderella
My favorite fairytale is Sleeping Beauty.
Sarah, That’s my favorite fairy tale too. Good luck! xoxo, Tauni
I love the story of Cinderella.
Danette, Who wouldn’t love a Fairy Godmother, right?! Good luck! xoxo, Tauni
Cinderella was and still is my favorite. 🙂 Those candied apples look DELICIOUS!!!
Ami, Thanks! The candied apples were good…I was worried they would be waaay to sweet. While they are obviously sugary-rich, the cinnamon really tamed it. xoxo, Tauni
I think Cinderella or Beauty and The Beast or Snow White or Tangled or The Little Mermaid…ok let’s be honest here…I’m not sure, I love the magic of all fairy tales!
Jess, Sounds like we’re two of a kind. I am a fairy tale kind of girl myself. xoxo, Tauni
I always liked Sleeping Beauty!
Rebekah, Of all the “Disney” princesses, Sleeping Beauty has always been my favorite as well. xoxo, Tauni
My favorite fairytale is definitely Snow White, I was always snow white as a child … and the little dwarfs are my absolute favorite…
But definitely Rapunzel is my close second 🙂
Tara, I love that…With red hair, I was never Snow White. I always left that to the dark haired beauties. Then again, that never stopped me from being Princess Leia, so…Good luck! xoxo, Tauni
I so wanted to see this movie in the theatres. Things came up and it never happend. Now I’m nervous about buying it before having seen it. I guess I’m too cheap to do that. But winning it on the other hand…that would be AWESOME.
Kim, You and I are soooo on the same page. Normally I wouldn’t review a movie, but when this opportunity came along I couldn’t pass it up! I am glad I got to see it. The visual effects and art really are stunning. xoxo, Tauni
It has got to be Cinderella because it’s my little girl’s favorite as well. Thanks for the chance!
Before I even saw the “Snow White and the Huntsman” part, I was thinking this would be perfect to dress up as the evil queen and hand these out! Fantastic.
I have always loved beauty and the beast, i still get chills when I hear the intro music from the Disney movie. My other favorite is actually a Japanese children’s stories, esp the grateful crane
If the story of Aladdin counts as a fairy tale, its my fave. 😉
Cinderella!
My favorite fairy tale has been Snow White. Been loving all the new venisons.
The Little Mermaid was my favorite growing up.
I wasn’t able to see this in theaters, either! Couldn’t convince the hubs to watch it with me.. boo.
Thanks for the recipe and the chance to win!
My favorite fairy tale was also the one about the Nona Witch…my Sicilian grandmother would tell it to us when we were little.
Cinderella has to be my all time favorite! 🙂
When I was younger I loved Sleeping Beauty. Now a days I could watch Hunchback of Notre Dame & Tangled over and over with my girls. 🙂
My favorite fairytale would have to be Snow White or Cinderella. I love them both!
I love the little mermaid! By far my fav!
Snow White is my favorite! Mostly because of my dark hair and fair skin. And I kinda want to live in a cute little cottage in the woods.
favorite – probably Cinderella ….
Going with Beauty and the Beast!
Cinderella!
I always loved Cinderella.. something about having a fairy godmother!!
I always loved Cinderella.. something about having a fairy godmother!!
I think Beauty and the Beast!
My mom nicknamed me Cinderella when I was little but I’ve always loved Sleeping Beauty when she lived in the cottage.
