When I think slow cooker, I think comfort food. What says comfort food more than cheese? Monday I topped my chili with cheese, Steph’s amazing chicken tacos were topped with cheese.
Today’s the day that it’s ALL about cheese…Slow Cooker Nacho Cheese.
Now normally, I am not a huge fan of processed cheese, but this recipe is quite nice…down right addicting. Even better? It’s super simple and feeds a crew. Perfect for Super Bowl Sunday!
Slow Cooker Nacho Cheese Recipe
1 box velveeta cheese (large box)
1 stick butter
1 diced onion
1 4 oz. can taco sauce
2 diced jalepenos or 1 4 oz. can green chilies (I am a spice wimp, so I prefer the green chilis)
optional: 1/2 lb. turkey sausage
In a large pan, melt butter. Stir in onions, cook until soft (approx. 3-5 min.). Add taco sauce and green chilies. Cut velveeta cheese into chunks. Put into a large crock pot and cook on low, stirring occasionally.
I mentioned that this recipe goes a long way. If you have leftovers (like we often do) keeps well in the refrigerator and can be used with many different dishes.

Hey Alley, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I’ve been traveling. The recipe pretty well fills a large crock pot. I typically make it for parties – could never eat that much otherwise. I think we’ve had anywhere from one to two dozen over to share this with…
Have a fun party!

I’m from Australia and we don’t have Velveeta, is there something else I can make which is similar? I’m dying with out cheese dip! Ha ha

Hannah, I have friends in Australia…You’re just not as unhealthy as we are with all of our processed foods! I know that you can get Velveeta at many of the US food shops there, but as an alternative I think you’d have to create this recipe with fresh cheddar cheese and butter, but I am not sure what the consistency would be. Let me know if you figure something out! xoxo Tauni

Think I should leave out taco sauce and chiles if half of my party guests will be kids?

My kids eat this all the time…It’s not really all that spicy. xoxo Tauni

Hi Tauni, thanks for the recipe, going to try it for Super Bowl Sunday! But I have a couple of questions, sorry! So…..you add the taco sauce and chiles to the pan you are cooking the onion in? Do you add that mixture in with the Velveeta in the crock pot right away, or wait until the cheese melts? And finally, how long does this all cook in the crockpot…..I don’t see a time….? Thank you so much in advance!!
Tauni says
Hi Karen, Yes. You add the taco sauce and chilis to the pan you’re cooking the onion in and stir. I always put everything straight into the crock pot. I don’t wait for the cheese to melt. As soon as the cheese is melted and everything is stirred together you can serve. It really doesn’t take that long. I really use the crock pot to keep the dip warm and melty 🙂 Good luck and happy snacking! xoxo Tauni
