The last few years I’ve added a few dark glam pieces to the Halloween decor. Last year I made a large black glittered candelabra and I wanted to balance the fireplace out with a little light on the other side. I decided some dollar store votives would be just the thing. To glam them up, I added a little lace.
How to Make DIY Lace Votives
This is a really inexpensive project (it only cost me $3), with very few items.
Supplies
Votives and vases (purchased at the dollar store)
Decoupage/Mod Podge (on hand)
Lace and netting (on hand)
Sponge brush
Brush a little glue onto the vase or votive you’d like to place the lace on.
Once you cover the glass in glue, lay the lace down on top of it.
Let the lace and glue dry. Once the lace and glue are dry, add another coat of glue on top of the lace – don’t worry it will dry clear.
Once your votives are dry, go ahead and add any embellishments you’d like in addition. I added a lace flower that I made in about 30 seconds with a needle and thread to one of the small votives, but left the other two plain.
Add tea lights or candles and you’re done. Viola. DIY lace votives complete. I love a simple project!
One of my favorite things about these little lights are the fun patterns cast on the walls from the lace.
What sort of Halloween decor do you put out? Is it cute and kid friendly? Spooky? Glam?
Those are really pretty, Tauni!
Why thank you Heather…Coming from the Dollar Store Crafts girl herself, I take that as a HUGE compliment! xoxo. Tauni
Those votives are so cute! I love using Dollar Store items to make really unique crafts and decorations.
These r great!! Definitely on my to-do list now!
These are adorable! These would be so cute on a table scape for a bachelorette party!
Beautiful. Cute. Would go well with my Halloween decor!
Thanks Mavis! These are so easy you will have plenty of time to complete the project before Halloween! xoxo, Tauni
I did this project with white lace for a lighter look. I tried it with modge podge and it ended up being very messy and my lace wouldn’t stick. Then I started over and tried spray adhesive and it worked beautifully.
Haley, I am glad that you found something that worked well…I am sure the type of lace and the type of glue probably have an impact on the project. I’d love to see your version. Send me a link or a photo! snapcreativity@gmail.com
Absolutely charming! I was in love at first sight. Question regarding the lace flower, what are the steps in making it
I thank you
E
Hi, You may have already completed this project. I just saw your question. To make the flower, I just ran a needle and thread through one end of the lace and pulled it tight. Thanks! Tauni
