Love the Halloween cult classic Hocus Pocus? Don’t miss this easy-to-make DIY Halloween pillow featuring Sarah Sanderson’s Song. This post contains affiliate links.
While there may be some argument across the internet as to what the very best Halloween cult classic is, in my world Hocus Pocus is the clear winner. I watch it every Halloween, without fail.
Last year, I tried introducing the show to Jay and his girls. I am not sure they were too keen on the production. It may be an acquired taste? In any event, this year I wanted to create a few Hocus Pocus-related items for display in and around my house.
While there aren’t a TON of songs in Hocus Pocus, the soundtrack still plays a huge role. The one song that sticks with me for months? Sarah Sanderson’s song “Come Little Children,” inspired by an Edgar Allen Poe poem. I secretly want to sing it to the little children that run past my office window all day.
Since the song practically haunts me throughout the Halloween season, I thought I might as well memorialize it on a pillow and share the cut file/stencil with you for free! I’ve also rounded up a few links to other fun Halloween files shared by friends (see below!).
DIY Halloween Pillow Featuring Sarah Sanderson’s Song
Here’s what you will need to recreate this project:
Sarah Sanderson’s Song Cut File (PNG or SVG)
Electronic Cutting Machine (I use this machine.)
Heat Transfer Vinyl (I use Expressions Vinyl HTV in White.)
Iron (this one works great for these projects!)
Lightweight Towel or Teflon Sheets
Pillow Cover (I always pick mine up at Ikea.)
Pillow Insert
Here’s how to create the DIY Halloween pillow cover:
- Download the “Sarah Sanderson’s Song” Cut File.
- Upload the design to your design software and create the appropriately sized layout. Be sure to mirror the image so that the text appears backwards on the screen. Feed the heat transfer material into your machine with the glossy side down. Select HTV in the media menu and cut.
- Peel the negative space in the design off the plastic backing, leaving only the words to transfer on the clear plastic transfer sheet.
- Position the design on the t-shirt face down so that you see it through the clear transfer sheet. Your text should be facing the right direction at this point.
- Place a this cloth or parchment paper over the design and place a heated iron on top PRESSING FIRMLY into the design for 45-60 sec.
- Remove the iron and cloth and gently peel up the transfer sheet. If the HTV continues to stick to the transfer sheet, replace the cloth and iron again making sure to apply pressure.
I love making pillows. They’re such a fun, inexpensive way to update your space and/or decorate for the holidays. This DIY Halloween pillow, featuring Sarah Sanderson’s song is going to have a place of honor this year, right in the entryway!
