This simple-to-make modern holiday wreath is the perfect touch for any front door!
My home is a pretty traditional space, but it’s sprinkled with modern touches like a cement mantel, loads of big windows and small pieces of decor. Holiday decor can be so over-done, I really wanted to create a simple, modern holiday wreath this year.
The hallmark of a modern-style wreath is a simple wreath form and more monochromatic color scheme, so I dug through my stash to see what I had on hand…There’s a good chance you have all the supplies in your craft room as well.
Modern Holiday Wreath
Supplies:
Large Embroidery Hoop – I used a 23″ hoop like this one, but any size would work.
Glue Gun – Any will work, but I LOVE this one. It’s the best!
Wire Cutters
Moss – You can get this for a great deal on Amazon.
Winter Filler or Pick
Small Woodland Creature Ornament – I bought mine at World Market, but this is similar.
Small Round Ornaments
Ribbon
The base of this wreath is a 23″ embroidery hoop. I prefer the Darice brand, as they’re well made and aren’t warped. The point where the wreath meets together makes for a great base.
Since I was going for simple, I really wanted to use things I already had on hand. I gathered together some moss that I had left over from some potting I’d been doing, a few random sprigs of greenery and white and some ribbon in the same color scheme.
I did PURCHASE a cute little squirrel ornament while at World Market the other day. Because who doesn’t love a sweet little woodland creature?
Adorable, right?!
Once I had all of the items, I simply started to add things here and there. I have to admit to walking over to my mantel and snipping off a few extra green bits to add some dimension. Then digging through some ornaments (for another project) and nabbing a few for my squirrel.
I used my FAVORITE glue gun to piece it all together and make sure everything was firm, before adding the ribbon and hanging it on my door.
I love how it turned out. Just enough holiday that it adds a bit of cheer to an otherwise boring door without taking away from the rest of my decor.
I love this modern holiday wreath. I am ready to make bunches more – one for every door on my house. Ha!
