Happy Tuesday SNAP readers! I’m excited to start our 2013 WordPress posts talking about plugins. I thought I would change it up a little and do a video tutorial showing you how to install a plugin and specifically how to set up a Pinterest plugin that will showcase your most recent pins on your sidebar.
But first, for those that don’t know, what is a plugin? WordPress’ site defines a plugin as “… tools to extend the functionality of WordPress. Plugins offer custom functions and features so that each user can tailor their site to their specific needs.” There are TONS of plugins out there, some are definitely better than others, so be sure to do a little research before you implement one on your site. Also, too many plugins can really slow your site down so be careful and don’t install too many.
Now, on to the show…hit “play” and enjoy! ๐ (after you hit play click the little tv icon in the bottom right corner of the video to view it full screen)
I’d love to hear what your favorite plugins are or if you have one you would like to know more about please share it in the comments!

Hi Amy, I don’t have a “plugins” option on my side bar of wordpress, is this because I’m using one of their free templates? Many thanks in advance, great tutorial!
Tauni says
Hey Leigh, Unfortunately there is no option to use plugins if you’re using WordPress.com (the free version). If you upgrade to WordPress.org (self-hosted), you can use a free theme and plugins. Depending on your site size and traffic, you can host for as little as $5 a month.
Good luck! Tauni
Amy @ LexiLyn Studio says
Oh yes, that is probably one of the main downfalls of WordPress.com, they don’t let you use your own plugins. I’m sorry! But like Tauni said you could move over to the self hosted WordPress. Best of luck!
