Several of our Halloween traditions seem to revolve around a particular movie for some reason…
You might remember I talked about our annual Great Pumpkin showing when I shared the orange slice candy pumpkin a few weeks ago? This week, we watched Hocus Pocus. Anyone else remember that one?
I wanted to make a popcorn treat for our screening and decided to go with a popcorn candy mix. Ghostly grub anyone?
Halloween Popcorn Treat
Ingredients
Unflavored popcorn – I like to make my own homemade microwave popcorn. It’s tons cheaper.
Candy corn
Candy corn M&Ms (you could use regular M&Ms or Reeses Pieces)
Candy bats – I picked these up off the cake decorating isle in the craft store.
White chocolate candy melts
Instructions
Spread popcorn out on a cookie sheet. Add candy.
Melt white chocolate in the microwave on 50 percent power for 1 min. Stir. If the chocolate still needs to be melted, microwave it on 50 percent power for another 30 sec.
Cover popcorn and candy with white chocolate candy melts. I like to put the melted chocolate in a frosting bag so that it’s distributed evenly over the popcorn and candy, but you could really just spoon it over the top.
Super-easy Halloween treat complete!
Halloween Popcorn Treat Packaging
And since I believe food always taste better if it looks good I added some ghostly packaging.
I packaged the popcorn treat in little translucent ghost boxes with eyes for the kids. Wouldn’t it be fun to let the kids make their own with some googley eyes?
I love how the darker pieces sort of look like the ghost’s mouth!
And, wouldn’t this fun treat be great to leave on your neighbor’s door steps as part of a neighborhood Halloween boo? I made some bigger bags of it as well…
Speaking of booing, here are a few of my favorite “you’ve been booed” printables.
You’ve Been Booed Halloween Sign
This Halloween boo tag, from Ander’s Ruff, caught my eye last year. So classy!
This darling Halloween boo sign, from Kim at the TomKat Studio, is perfect for a little family doorbell ditching…It also just happens to be the one that showed up on my door a few days ago!
There’s another cute Halloween boo printable over at Mom’s Crafty Space…
Have you been booed? It’s such good fun and one of my favorite Halloween traditions.

Love the packaging idea! Where did you get the frosted bags and boxes?
Tauni says
Thanks Darlene! I actually purchased the bags and take out boxes here in SLC (shop local), but I bet you could find them at Think Garnish: http://www.thinkgarnish.com/ I love that site. You might also find them on ETSY. Just search for frosted bag or frosted take out box. Good luck! xoxo Tauni

I made the popcorn and there was plenty left over. It is so incredibly yummy that I cannot stop munching on it!! Gah! Help me! Thank you for the wonderful idea for our Boo baskets and for the extra 10 lbs I am sure to gain from the leftovers! 🙂

Melinda says
What amounts of each item did you use? I’d love to make this for a party I’m going to this weekend!
Tauni says
Melinda, It all depends on how much popcorn you pop. I popped my popcorn in a bag. I think it was probably about 1/2 – 2/3 cup of kernels (when it was popped it covered a large cookie sheet. I used probably two to three cubes of candy melt and then just sprinkled the candy until I liked how it looked…It’s been a year since I made these, but I know that I used less than a bag of each candy….Good luck! Would love to see your finished product 🙂 xoxo Tauni
