We all know Father’s Day is fast approaching, and there are tons of fun ideas of things you can craft for gifts. But let’s not forget Grandpa’s too! I have a quick and easy t shirt idea for you today…
The shirt states : “My GRANDPA deserves a PAT on the back” and of course, it includes pats on the back from all the grandkids.
First, let’s talk about the lettering. I used a cutting machine and heat transfer vinyl, which just irons on. If you don’t want to cut your own, you can use the file I created. If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can try printable iron-on sheets, arranging iron-on letters, or even using freezer paper to create a stencil. Lots of options.
Next up the back of the shirt. I used regular craft paint mixed at a 2:1 ratio with fabric medium (sold by the craft paint). The fabric medium helps it stay on fabric and ensures that the paint isn’t too stiff or crunchy.
I then used a foam brush to generously coat each child’s hand. I let them choose where they wanted their handprint, then helped guide it into place. After putting their hand on the shirt, I pressed on top of it firmly, then had them pull off the shirt in an upward direction.
The handprints were a little light, so we ended up doing two coats.
And that’s all there is to it!
