Valentine’s Hearts & Stripes Wood Banner

Hello friends.  Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I’ve started decorating my entry way and as usual I’m sticking to non-traditional colors.  This Valentine’s Hearts & Stripes Wood Banner is the first project I’m sharing from my decor this year.

I love using non-traditional colors when it comes to Valentine’s Day.  Who says it has to be all red and pink?  One of my favorite things this past year has been black and white stripes, and my love for them isn’t going anywhere.  I also know how popular gold still is in decor, so I paired the two up for a lovely combination.

Supplies:

Wood pennant banner, you can find them online at Consumer Crafts or The Wood Connection and in most craft stores.
Jute twine or bakers twine
Acrylic paint, black & white
Gold spray paint
Masking / Painters tape
Vinyl hearts stencil, or heart stickers

Start by painting all your wood pieces white.  You should need about two coats.

Once they are dry apply the masking / painters tape stripes to some of them.  To the rest you can apply a vinyl hearts stencil that you can create using a vinyl cutting machine. If you don’t have one you can use stickers, or even masking tape with a small heart punch and just apply to the wood pennant piece.

Paint two coats of black paint on your striped wood pieces and let dry.

While the striped pieces are drying go outside and using gold spray paint give your heart wood pieces a couple of quick coats of paint.  Let dry.

Once everything is dry you can assemble your banner on jute twine or bakers twine.

Hang your Valentine’s Hearts & Stripes Wood Banner and you’re done.  Isn’t it so pretty?!  I love that this banner can be used anytime of the year, not just for Valentine’s Day.  It would be darling in a little girls room, or even in a craft room / office.

Want to know a secret?  You can also flip the whole thing over and paint the other side a totally different theme / or color palette and make this wood banner double duty!
