Hi! I am Donna, from Funky Junk Interiors. I was asked by Tauni to come up with one word I could live by for 2014.
My word… always the first word… that comes to mind, is most definitely BELIEVE. For a reason.
I worked in a day job for 22 years that I fell out of love with. Things just changed when my son came into the picture. My passion became all about him.
And then one day, I realized I didn’t want to go to work any longer. What happened to my very successful business?
I continued to go in each and every day doing my thing. But then hard times hit, and I ended up losing my dream home, and becoming a sole parent overnight.
Out of compete and utter need, I started gathering junk off the side of the road in order to furnish my home.
And that was the start of Funky Junk. (My entire story is HERE.)
But here’s where Believe comes into play…
I continued to work at the job I no longer loved, however once I got home, I was on fire. I’d dash to do a DIY or make a new blog post. And things slowly started to change.
I was soon spending more time on the blog than I was at the day job. I let most of my customers go while hanging onto the very best and most reliable ones and kept on blogging.
And then ‘that day’ finally arrived. I loathed getting out of bed to go to work. Once there, I was handed a new wor korder and you would have thought I was picking up a 50-lb crate of dread. My arms burned with the mere lift, and right then, I had to give notice. No matter what.
I had to believe I could make this unknown blog world work.
I had to believe that by picking up a drill for the first time, I could make a pile of rubble into something useful.
I had to believe that taking chances and risks are part of the ride.
And I had to believe that I was being watched over, and if I honored what I was meant to do, I’d be gifted right back, many times over.
My last truck – blog post about my last day
My first day waking up as a full fledged Funky Junk Interiors was only this past August. And know what? I’ve been too busy to count my nickels and dimes and worrying about bills. Too busy. Working. Taking on new opportunities. And working some more. How is that for being blessed?
I’m no longer without. (<—- that one will get your heart beating!) Because I believed.
I also believe the person you want to be, is already here.
YOU just have to believe it!
Oh how I love and admire Donna, from Funky Junk Interiors. Isn’t she a wonderful storyteller? Beyond that she is an incredibly talented decorator. I have never, ever met anyone with such a great eye for making “junk” look like a million bucks. If you’ve never visited Donna’s blog, you’re in for a real treat.
