Hi Friends! It’s Ariean from OneKriegerChick here to share a super-simple way to create Monogrammed Eggs for your Easter or Spring decor.
Did you know I have chickens? Yep, sure do. Which means I have an abundance of beautiful brown and pinkish eggs.
I’m not sure if you have ever tried to color farm eggs, but they don’t produce the same result as the white eggs from the grocery store. Since I have so many, it’s silly for me to purchase white eggs just to color for Easter. Farm eggs can be just as beautiful (or more so)…
What you’ll need…
Eggs, poking tool, toothpick, bowl to catch yolk, chalkpaint, stickers, soft round paintbrush or sponge brush
Here’s how I did it…
Using a sharp poking tool like you see here, carefully poke a hole in both the top and bottom of the egg. This is a paper piercing tool and it worked perfectly. I gently twisted the tool into the egg until it went all the way through. On the side that would be the bottom, use the toothpick to make the hole slightly larger. This allows for ample room for the yolk to slide out.
To empty the egg, you can use anything that will blow the contents into the bowl. I just blew it out using my mouth, making sure there was no yolk on the shell where I placed my mouth. You will probably have to poke the toothpick around on the inside to help break the yolk.
Then, bake the eggs for about 20 minutes at 375 to both harden the shell and bake off any residue left inside.
Once the eggs cool, it’s time to decorate. Start by placing a sticker of the monogram you would like to paint.
Then gently apply chalk paint with a soft pouncing or dabbing motion. This way, some of the brown egg peeks through. This is optional, of course. You could apply a thicker coating of paint as long as the sticker is applied tightly.
See the brown speckles peeking through…
Peel off the sticker and you are left with a simple, yet elegant (but still fun) place marker.
If you don’t even want to go to that much work…simply write a name on the egg with a chalk marker. Farm eggs provide a naturally beautiful background.
