Ai-yi-yi. Three birthdays in three weeks. Not only does it make for a busy month, but it also means coming up with three VERY different birthday parties for three VERY different personalities. Anyone else have this issue?
Number two is just like his dad. His birthday favors call for subtle cool, without to much in your face theme. Since it’s been all Avengers all the time lately, I knew something superhero would make this one happy…Especially if it had anything to do with Thor, his favorite character.
Enter Thor’s hammer.
Supplies.
- Cardboard tubes
- Craft paper boxes
- Hot glue
- Candy, small toys, etc.
- Stickers
I started with six 2×24 brown cardboard mailing tubes that I purchased for 99 cents each. I used a small electric saw to cut them into eight inch sections to be used as the hammer handle.
The cardboard mailing tubes worked well because they were so sturdy, although I would have loved for them to be a half inch smaller in diameter. If you wanted an even less expensive option, you could probably use paper towel rolls.
I used a hot glue gun to attach the cardboard tubes to the bottom of the craft paper boxes.
I filled each of the boxes with a variety of treats and snacks – Captain America popcorn, Avengers fruit snacks, blue and red Airheads and Smarties.
Because I know boys, I knew that the first thing they would do when the hammers were passed out is swing them around. Rather than having treat and prizes soaring through the air, I secured each box with a little superhero washi-style tape.
I made the tape with my new Xyron Create-a-Sticker Machine. These little machines were in our SNAP! swag bags and they may be my favorite item yet (and for under $10 a piece, a steal!!!).
One of the great things about the more plain style, was that there was time for the kids to decorate them however they liked!
Birthday success. I would love to see the party favors you’ve been making for your kids birthdays. Leave me a comment with a link!
Where did you find the paper boxes?
Hi Ashley, sorry I missed your comment. It’s on an older post! I think you can probably get the boxes here: http://www.thinkgarnish.com/store/shop-garnish Best, Tauni
We’re about to have our own avengers party here, and I’ve been struggling with the goodie bag issue. These would be perfect! Where did you buy your the craft paper boxes at? thank you!
Jennifer, The store I purchased my boxes at is no longer in business, but I think they would be pretty easy to find at any packaging, paper, food supply. They are called kraft bakery boxes. Here’s a similar listing on Amazon:

Hope that helps!
Tauni do you think it would be possible to make these out of kleenex boxes ?
Emerald, You would have to figure out how to seal up the hole in the top of the box and then cover the box with paper (if you want it to look uniform), but I am sure you could make it work! If you try it, I hope that you will share a photo with me! xo Tauni
