While shopping at Michaels the other day I came across these adorable little fancy frames from the $$Dollar$$ section. Don’t you just love that section!?!
They had several frames in different colors and I think even a few different shapes. I needed to make a small gift for someone and I grabbed one of these small frames. When I originally purchased my frame it wasn’t the exact color I was looking for, it was actually red…and since I needed something turquoise I spray painted it! Now for the rest of what I did…
Framed Chalkboard Magnets
Supplies:
– Small Fancy Frame
– Heavy Duty Magnet Strips
– Thin Piece of Wood cut to fit inside frame
– DecoArt Chalkboard Paint
– Chalk & Chalk Markers
– E6000 Glue
– Glue Gun
– Spray Paint {optional if you want to change the color of your frame}
I knew right away I wanted to turn my frame in to a chalkboard art magnet for the person I was gifting it to. So first thing I did was grab a piece of small thin wood and cut it to fit inside the frame opening.
I then painted the wood with my DecoArt chalkboard paint. I did 4 coats, just follow the bottles directions. Then season your chalkboard, if you haven’t done this before it’s basically rubbing white chalk back and forth several times over your board.
Since the back of the frame has a stand I just carefully removed it. If your giving it as a gift just add a piece of black cardstock to the back of the frame to cover any imperfections.
Once your chalkboard is dry then place some E6000 on the back of it and firmly press it in to the frame opening. Let it dry for at least 6 hours, but it’s better to let it sit overnight.
My board fit very snuggly inside the frame so I wasn’t worried it was going to move at all.
Last thing to do is attach your magnets. I used hot glue and attached 3 strips of magnet to the back of my frame, I wanted to make sure it would hold strong on whatever it was stuck to. Then I drew a personalized message for the person I was sending it to with a chalk marker. She loves cheese!
Want another idea for these cute mini fancy frames? How about the dishwasher or washer & dryers? I also made one for my dishwasher so that my kiddo’s could see when it was clean or dirty. They constantly ask me, so this way they know for sure. Simply write clean & dirty on the chalkboard, if you want the chalk to be more permanent simply gift the chalkboard a quick spray with some matte sealer (just tape off your frame with painters tape). So it’s up to you how you use the frames, either way it’s so fun and gives some personality to the space.
By the way did you happen to notice the other cute magnets on the fridge next to my fancy framed chalkboard? Those are cute little self adhesive badges from Dear Lizzy, you can find them HERE. I just took the adhesive off and super glued some magnets on the back. I love them!
Oh my gosh! I love this idea!!!
