Editors Note: While I am away working on Snap Conference, I have handpicked a few of my favorite bloggers to share Teacher Appreciation Ideas with you! Today please welcome my friend Katie!
Hello there! This is Katie from my blog, Purely Katie. Today I am excited to share a unique gift idea. Teacher Appreciation Day is coming up shortly and I wanted to make something for teachers to enjoy during their summer break. I am sharing a very easy candle tutorial and included a fun printable for the perfect gift!
DIY Lemon Candle + Printable
Teachers truly are super heros and deserve to relax over their summer break. One way I like to relax is with a candle. I make all-natural soy candles over on my blog and thought I would share one here. This is a lemon scented candle and I used a small concrete container to make it in so it can be used inside or outside on the patio or porch.
Here’s what you will need to create this DIY lemon candle + printable:
- 4 cups natural soy wax
- candle wick
- lemon essential oil
- concrete container (I bought mine at TJ Maxx)
- candle glue dots or hot glue gun
- scissors
- printable (you can download later in this post)
How to make a DIY lemon candle:
Start by applying one glue dot or hot glue to the metal tab on the candle wick, then place the tab in the bottom center of the concrete container. I used a new clamping method with two popsicle sticks and a clothespin. This is the best way I have found to hold the wick in place. Set aside.
Place 4 cups of natural soy wax flakes into a heat resistant bowl. Using the double boiler method, melt the wax until completely dissolved into a liquid. I added 20 drops of lemon essential oil to the melted wax. You can add desired amount of oils.
Pour the scented liquid candle wax into the prepared jars. Set aside and let harden. The candle wax will change to a white color once it is completely set and hardened. Trim the wick by cutting it with a pair of scissors.
I made a pretty printable label for your candle. This would make a great teacher appreciation gift. I hope you like it!
