DIY Hello Sign

Hello! For months I’ve wanted a sign for my front entry way that said “hello.” I’ve seen numerous wood cut out styles that I really liked, but I wanted to make something myself. I headed to Home Depot and purchased a piece of wood and got to work. Today I’m showing you the DIY hello sign I made for under $5.

DIY Hello SignSupplies:

Pine Board {mine measures 7″ x 18″}
Vinyl Stencil that says “hello” {I used the pacifico font and created it on my Silhouette}
Americana Acrylic Paint in Sea Breeze
Foam Brush
Sand Paper

The first thing I did was create a vinyl stencil on my Silhouette. I removed all the vinyl pieces I didn’t need, leaving only the word “hello.”

3I used my transfer paper {aka – clear contact paper} to transfer the vinyl to the wood board. I chose to leave my wood board raw for my lettering, I just liked how the cool color of the paint was against the raw wood. I centered my stencil and made sure to remove all the air bubbles.

Then just painted it with my Americana paint in Sea Breeze, I gave it two coats.

4Once it was dry, I removed my vinyl stencil carefully using a small pin to help grab the pieces. Then I lightly sanded the edges.

6{Tip: Hammer 4 nails to the back of the wood to lift the wood off the counter or table so you can easily paint the sides, remove when it’s dry}

7I love how this turned out and it will be the perfect addition to my new gallery wall in my front entry way. You can either stand it up on a table or hammer a saw tooth hanger on the back.

    I love it. I have a silhouette but no vinyl. I like all the projects I’m seeing that use vinyl. Thanks for sharing.
