Saturday Share: Simple Halloween Scrapbook {Giveaway}

Today I have a fun project and a giveaway in addition to the regular link-up!

Big fan of Halloween here.

BIG.

It sort of runs in the family.

We have a lot of great Halloween photos, like this one from last year…

Halloween 2013Or this goofy one from our Halloween dinner two years ago…

Halloween 2011And my sister-in-law has some super-fun images as well, like this one of my nephew…

Ghostbuster HalloweenWith all of these great images available, I wanted to create a fun, but simple, Halloween scrapbook for my parents.

Simple Halloween Scrapbook

I am not much of a scrapbooker to start with, but I am a huge fan of Project Life. It’s the perfect way to complete a book that looks great, but doesn’t take the time and money involved in traditional scrapbooking.

Project Life Halloween Mini Scrapbook

Let’s start by talking about some of the supplies.

  • Project Life Mini Album – Midnight. These mini albums can be a little hard to find in stores, but you can grab one online. The great thing about these smaller albums is that they come with photo pocket pages sewn in.
  • Project Life Halloween Theme Cards. I am a BIG fan of these theme packs. They’re fantastic + they’re inexpensive. The Halloween pack has 40 cards – 8 4×6 cards and 32 3×4 cards. These cards are available at Hobby Lobby.
  • Slick Writer and Project Life Pens. The Slick Writers are awesome. They are photo safe and will write on slick surfaces. The Project Life journaling pens are a bit more precise. I use them for everything from journaling to everyday writing.
  • Photos.

Here’s where I own up…I broke my own super-simple scrapbooking rule and just went to simple.

I grabbed some additional scrapbooking supplies. The Project Life Halloween Theme Cards design is based on the Pebbles, Inc. Thirty-One collection. So I snagged the Pebbles Thirty-One 6×6 Halloween Paper Pad…

Pebbles Inc Thirty One Collection Paper Pad

And then bought some fun flat embellishments, including the FREAKING AWEOME Halloween washi American Craft has at Target.

But back to my simple scrapbook…

I started my Halloween book with the Project Life Halloween Theme cards. I wanted to give you a better picture of what they look like…

Project Life Halloween Theme Pack

Awesome, yes?!

One of the things I really like about these cards is that I can use them in my Halloween scrapbook, but I can also use them as gift tags and cards. So excited!

I wanted it to be clear right from the start that this was a Halloween scrapbook. I started by updating the window in the front of the mini album.

Project Life Basic Flat EmbellishingI just used one of the 3×4 cards in the theme pack and then just added a little bit of the cool Happy Halloween washi from Target.

Here’s the end result…

Project Life Halloween Mini Book A word about embellishing…

Those of you who’ve followed along know that I don’t do a lot of embellishing. I sort of use Project Life in its most basic form. When I do embellish my cards and photos I try to keep my embellishments as flat as possible (to the horror of every traditional scrapbooker). When the cards are layered up, they just don’t fit into the photo pocket tightly.

I like to start by rounding my photo corners and slipping the photos and cards in the album first. I go back to embellish and journal later. I know that’s a little backwards for some people, but to each his own, right?

It took me less than an hour to get everything in the album. Here’s a little sample of what it looks like so far…

Halloween Scrapbook

Project Life Halloween Mini AlbumI will be back to share more Halloween Project Life pages next week.

In the meantime, how about a little giveaway? I am giving away one pack of  Project Life Halloween Theme Cards. Please follow the directions in the Rafflecopter widget to enter.

I really, really love this! You have inspired me to go hunt through to find the last 20 years of Halloweens to make an album for my girls. (How on earth have they gotten so old??) Now to find an album…I wish they weren’t so hard to find.

  37. Melissa says

    October 7, 2013 at 12:51 pm

I’d love to do a “coffee table” book for Halloween…but I’d probably just put them in my regular Project Life. My daughter actually begged for this pack from Archiver’s and I meant to swipe some of the cards before she used them all…so far I haven’t!

This would be a great way to get into PL…baby steps so it doesn’t seem overwhelming because I’m one of those over thinkers who tends to make it more difficult than it really needs to be resulting in not trying ????

    Thanks for a chance!

Andrea, what a bummer! I still have a bit left on my roll. How much are you looking for? xoxo Tauni

Hi Tauni – thank you for your kind message. I don’t need much – maybe just a few “Happy Halloweens”. I loved how you did your cover page for this album which was what inspired my search! I’d like to be able to use it for this same type of project. If you can spare some, I am happy to pay for it and to send it to me (I am in WA state). Thank you!!
