As I chop up the final veggies for dinner, I anxiously look at the clock on the stove. I can hear my boys arguing over who gets to play with that toy. My leg buckles as my daughter hits the back of my knee asking “Hold you?” “He should be home any minute,” I think to myself. And then I hear the door creak open. It’s silent as if we have all been waiting for that magical sound. “Daddy!” Little footsteps scramble towards the door and eyes light up to where our Superhero stands.
There are so many days when I am just counting the minutes until Dad gets home to save the day aka my sanity. Why is it that the time right before dinner is the most chaotic? Anyone else feel like this? Dad comes home, tends to the children while I finish up dinner. Chaos returns as we sit to eat. Dad calms the kids down because I have run out of patience from refereeing tiffs most of the day. He even lets our baby daughter eat off his plate because she has no interest in her own dinner. He even gets the kids to help with the dishes and vacuum the myriad of crumbs under the dinner table- and they have fun!
After he is done being Mr. Clean he turns into everyone from Batman to Killer Croc to Tickle Monster. No matter who he is, he is their very own Superhero. And he’s my superhero, too.
This printable can show Dad why he is our superhero. Happy Father’s Day to our superheroes!
