Hi there friends! Ready for a fun and easy tutorial today! Today I am going to show you how to Embed a Pinterest Board on your WordPress blog. Fun right!? You can embed a board to a post or into the sidebar. If you want to see a live example you can see one on my blog. I have several pin boards embedded on my sidebar.
*This tutorial is specifically for all Genesis themes. You can definitely embed a Pinterest board on your blog with other WordPress themes but this is this written to show you specifically with Genesis.
Okay, lets go!
1.) Open two Internet tabs. One with your blog dashboard and one with the Pinterest Widget Builder Page.
2.) On the Pinterest Widget Builder Page make sure that “Board Widget” is selected.
3.) Paste in the url link for one of your specific Pinterest boards.
4.) You can choose your size by choosing “Square” “Sidebar” “Header” or “Roll Your Own”. Roll Your Own will allow you to choose a custom size.
5.) Click “Build It!”
6.) Scroll down and see your preview.
7.) Keep scrolling down the page until you see “Load the Java Script” and copy everything you see in your grey box.
^^^ And note: No matter how many buttons or widgets you have, only add the pinit.js code once!
8.) When you have that code copied go over to your blog dashboard. Hover over Genesis > and then chose “Theme Settings”.
9.) Scroll to the very bottom of the page and paste your code in the box that says:
Enter scripts or code you would like output to wp_footer()
: and save!
10.) Now go back over to the Pinterest Widget Builder Page and copy the code in the grey box that says “Add Link”.
11.) Now add this code whoever you would like you Pinterest board to be located on your blog. If you want it in a blog post then paste the code into your post (while in the “text” tab). Or if you would like your Pinterest board to appear in your sidebar then paste the code into a text widget.
Wasn’t that easy! 🙂

I tried this with my WordPress “A Simpler Time” theme but when I got to step 9, my WP theme does not show the ‘theme settings’. Can the code be put into a widget. One of my frustrations, not being technical. So would love to add my Pinterest boards on my side bar. Thanks for sharing steps, wish I could figure it out on my end,
Tauni says
Cathy, if you’re looking to add something to your sidebar, you probably just want to go with a plugin. There are several that work well if you just run a quick search 🙂 xoxo Tauni

Cathy, I was able to edit it mine by going to the dashboard, scrolling down and click on “Appearance,” then click “Widgets”. I had to add using the “Text” widget. You can check mine out at jessiebarksdale.com. I customized the text because it would not display the Pinterest Board to my side bar. It may be because I’m not a WP Premium user. If anyone has tips to get the board to display please let me know. Great post! Thanks! 🙂 jessie
Kendra @ Key Lime Digital Designs says
Hi Jessie! I don’t think it will work on your blog correctly because you have a wordpress.com blog. They will not allow you to use Java Script in your sidebar on wordpress.com 🙁 🙁
You can read the details here is you want.

Thanks so much for reading!

Hi Cathy!
There has been an updated post on how to embed a pinterest board into your sidebar. And all you have to do is copy and paste a small piece of code into your sidebar / post. So it will work for any theme! Here is the link to the post. 🙂

Hey, Cathy! I just wanted to hit you with a quick thanks on how beautifully mine turned out. I’m not used to guided tutorials yielding an end result that’s both pretty and functional! (Usually it’s one or the other.)

I’ve added this to my website and I love it! Question: Is there a way to center it? I have it in the header and I can’t get it centered, grr! Please let me know if this is possible! Thanks!
Tauni says
Yes Jamie. It’s always possible 🙂 You need to go into your CSS and add the center code. It looks like this

Does anyone who does NOT have Genesis know how to add this? I actually just want the follow me on Pinterest button. I tried copying it to “image URL” and nothing happened.

Hi Tauni! This was an easy and clear explanation and I hoped it would work. It seems no matter what I try I cannot get pin widgets to work on my Genesis with Child Theme (Foodie Pro) site. It’s incredibly frustrating and limiting. I have a new site being designed as we speak that no longer uses Genesis. Hoping that solves the problem! If you have tips or ideas on making this work until then, please let me know! Cheers!
Tauni says
Gosh. I don’t know why it wouldn’t work for you…I actually run all of my sites on Genesis and haven’t ever had a problem! Wish I could be more helpful. xo Tauni
