Today’s interview is with Season 16 Contestant, Melissa.
Melissa is a two-time challenge winner. She picked up her first win with these awesome squirt gun curtains during our “kids can do” challenge.
Her second win came during our outdoor challenge. You cannot miss her tutorial for the amazing whisky fire pit. It’s one of my favorite projects so far this season!
Girl is AAAAMAZING!
Interview with Melissa Delight
1. Tell us a little about you and your blog.
The idea to start a blog came while wandering the aisles of JoAnn Stores, talking to my mom. She laughed, because I tend to get really excited about something and then switch to something entirely different. I call my blog Zigzags and Blossoming- the Story Behind Delighted. I am constantly being asked, “How did you do that? Will you teach me?” Having a blog where I can showcase some of my ideas is fun. I am not the best at keeping it up to date, but I promise to be real and always try to be better! 🙂
2. How and when did you start crafting?
Crafting has always been a passion of mine. I LOVED the “project” assignments in school and can remember specific assignments from every grade level that challenged my creativity. In middle school my grandma gave me her sewing machine and a week of quilting classes. Boy was I proud of that quilt, second place at the county fair. There was only two entries, but it was awesome anyway!
3. How often do you craft?
I zig and zag! Sometimes the house never gets cleaned because I am in “project mode” and you all know you do not just stop that 😉 Then there will be weeks where I am not feeling creative and lacking inspiration. As a nurse, I only work 3 days a week- 12 hr shifts, so I have the ability to craft often!! Lucky me!
4. Where do you get your inspiration?
I love the challenge of creating something new from something old or repurposing. I get a big thrill when people compliment an item in my house or a piece to an outfit and I can say, “Thanks, I made it!” I take the pups to Home Depot and wander the aisles just thinking creatively. I see cool I-Want-That things at stores and immediately ask myself if I can make it. In other words I am annoying to shop with. I even thought about making my wedding dress, but alas one of my bridesmaids said she would take my sewing machine if I did that!
5.What is your favorite medium to work in?
I do not necessarily have a favorite medium, but more a favorite concept. Why spend a ton of money if I can make it myself for cheaper?! 🙂 This goes for decorating, food, crafts, clothes you name it!
6. What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate!! Dark chocolate to be specific.
7. What makes you smile?
Teaching new dads how to diaper and swaddle their babies! Also? When my guy comes home and says, “Did you make that?!”
8. What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?
I LOVE setting out on adventures! No real agenda, just the open road and my boys. We have gotten ourselves into some fun, scary, humorous and always entertaining situations! We one time decided to camp in our car in Whistler. The border agent said, “How long will you be here?” We told her two nights. She asked us why we had so much stuff. When we told her we were camping she exclaimed, “HERE?! It’s November!” We know and we had an incredible time!!!
Be sure to catch up with Melissa:
Unfortunately Melissa wasn’t able to compete in this week’s ruffle challenge, but she would have entered a fun ruffle turkey.
