1.Tell us a little about you and your blog.
I’m like most other bloggy women–mother of 2 young kids and I currently stay at home. My blog started to show my mom the junk I was making and in many ways is still the same, each post is just a project I’ve made. I think I’ve improved and learned gained more skills and have been trying to improve my photography along the way. My interests continue to grow and I’d say the core of what I make is sewing, but I also enjoy decor, paintingt, reupholstery, furniture makeovers, thrifting, furniture building and maybe someday I will get over my fear and try crochet or knitting. My passion is the creating, not so much the blogging side of things thus my pathetically outdated tabs and really poor “tutorials” links. So I try to focus on having good content, but good luck finding it again if you come back later. Maybe someday I’ll have a polished blog/ website, something to work on I guess.
2. What season are you returning from and what was your favorite theme from that season?
I competed in Season 3 and my favorite theme was probably Bath Time where I made washcloth puppets.
3. What have you been up to since you last competed on SYTYC?
We moved to another state, I had a baby, and we purchased our first home so I’ve learned to do more decor and started building furniture which I really love. I got a table saw for Christmas a few weeks ago which I am thrilled about. My last few birthday/ christmas gifts have been power tools. I’ve also tried to learn more sewing techniques and have been pushing myself into developing a better base for sewing clothing, mainly for my family and myself. One of my favorite garments I’ve made was a red wool coat last December.
4. What is something that not a lot of people know about you but you WISH more people COULD know?
Hmmm…probably that I’m actually pretty silly and occasionally funny. Especially on my blog, I feel like most of the time I’m all business and just details about the project and not much of me gets in there. But that’s probably going to be my lifetime regret. Just like high school– if I could go back the only thing (other than my crappy wardrobe and lame hair) I would change would be to just be myself rather than the shy, quiet, nerd girl. Typically I’m pretty quiet, but once I get comfortable I won’t shut up. Shrek and I just have layers you have to peel away to get to know the “real” person I guess.
5. Are you a morning or night person?
Before I got married, I was neither, just someone who needed a lot of sleep. But my husband’s family are all night owls–one occasion my mother-in-law served a 3 course meal at 11:00pm. So being married to a night owl has steered me more into a night functioning person. Also being up at night once I had kids opened up the possibility of getting a lot of work done late into the night. My husband works nights here and there so I stay up way late if he’s gone workign…all the sudden I’ll be sewing and realize it’s 4am and my kids will be up in a few hours. Not smart, but I get a boat-load of projects done. Luckily that doesn’t happen too frequently.
6. What is your guilty pleasure?
cake for breakfast and Arrested Development
7. What is your favorite breakfast food?
other than cake? I go more for savory than sweet, like a sausage, cheese, egg Costco croissant sandwich
8. What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?
Probably at this stage in my life play games/ watch movies with my little family. In another stage of my life I would really love to travel more someday when my kids are able to walk on their own and pack and carry their own crap.
