1.Tell us a little about you and your blog.
I am originally from the Lexington, Kentucky area, but I currently live in Dayton, Ohio with the love of my life, Matt, and our doggie, Nix. We moved here so he could attend law school ,and luckily I found a job doing what I love- teaching kindergarten! Since he was super busy with school and I was a few hours away from family and friends, I occupied my free time with crafts. I started my blog a few months after we moved to Dayton to catalog projects I’ve completed and share my ideas in hopes to inspire others! I love just about any craft and I love trying new crafts, but I’m really partial to jewelry-making and sewing. I have a wide array of projects to share on my blog including home decor projects holiday decorating ideas, clothing refashions, jewelry projects and more! Many of my projects come with tutorials, too so you can craft along with me!
2.How and when did you start crafting?
I’ve always loved crafting. Some of my favorite memories from childhood are from girl scouts making God’s eyes, bird feeders, and sit-upons. 🙂 I rediscovered crafting in my adult years through a little scrap booking and paper crafting through my college years and then through jewelry making later on. I stumbled upon jewelry making when a sculpted wire Christmas ornament project did not work out and I ended up with lots of extra supplies and needed to find something to do with them. That Christmas (2008) I made my first batch of earrings, gave them as gifts to family, and haven’t stopped loving jewelry-making since. Matt got me a sewing machine for our anniversary after we moved to Dayton and I have been seriously hooked on sewing ever since, too. I really want to take up quilting and crocheting…
3.How often do you craft?
Since I teach, I craft when I have time. I often have all these great ideas, but no hours (or energy!) to put into actually carrying the projects through. Weekends are usually full crafting days and some weeknights I can devote an hour or two if I’m working on a long project. I am definitely a late night project starter, too. So really, it just kind of depends. Now that school’s out for the summer and I have finally finished grad school, I can craft whenever I want! I hope to do lots of projects this summer!
4.Where do you get your inspiration?
I, of course, get my inspiration from fabulous other bloggers and Pinterest. I could seriously spend hours looking at all the blogs I follow. I also gather inspiration from the people and things surrounding me daily. I am always on the look out for a fun necklace to inspect so I can figure out how to make it, a fun pillow, or great home décor I think I might be able to replicate. My phone’s photo album is full of project ideas and I have definitely been caught by people I’ve been staring at while I’m trying to get a good look at some great accessory they have. Ha!
5.What is your favorite medium to work in?
I love fabric because there are so many possibilities and it can be used in nearly any craft I’m making. When making jewelry, I love chain, pearls, and anything with an antiqued bronze or gold finish.
6.What is your guilty pleasure?
Lots of diet coke and coffee. I know it’s horrible for me. But I’m still drinking it as we speak. So good.
7.What makes you smile?
My sister, Maggie, Matt, our dog, my awesome friends, my students, and finished products I love.
8.What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?
I love reading, travelling, being outside, and spending time with friends and family.
